Introduction to the human skeleton

Human skeleton

El human skeleton It is made up of four main types of bones. There are long bones, like the ones we have in our arms and legs; short bones, such as those in the hands, feet, and spine; flat bones, which protect organs and provide a place of attachment for muscles, and irregular bones, which are simply all bones that are not long, short, or flat.

In order to provide our body with the strength it needs to maintain shape, move and support weight, as well as to protect organs, the bones have to be very strong. However, in order to allow us to move easily, jump and be active, these also have to be as light and small as possible.

How many bones do we have in the body?

When we are Babies, we have about 350 bones in the body. As we grow, many of these bones fuse together. When two bones fuse, they grow together, becoming one large bone. This reduces the number of bones in adulthood. An adult has approximately 206 bones in his body.

Where in the body are there more bones?

Almost half of the bones of the human skeleton are found in hands and on the feet. This is because both parts of the body are extraordinarily complex and flexible works of engineering. Human hands are the most amazing and advanced appendage in any animal on Earth.
